Message from the Principal 12-2-25

Hello, Washburn Families, 

In times when voices of division grow loud, I write today with a message of unity: that all students, from all places and backgrounds, are welcomed and valued at Washburn High School. 

All are welcome means:  We will not ask for status or documentation. We will ask that students treat each other with respect and as members of one incredible community. 

To our Somali students and families, and all our immigrant communities: You are seen here. You are valued here. You are home here. Your presence enriches our school, our city and our state. You make us better. We are so glad you are here.

Global perspectives are at the heart of being an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Our students learn from each other as much as from our teachers and staff. Our families choose Washburn so that students get to learn with others from different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We would not be the great school that we are without our immigrant students. 

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. We are here to help and support.

Hola, Familias de Washburn, 

En tiempos en que las voces de división se hacen más fuertes, escribo hoy con un mensaje de unidad: que todos los estudiantes, de todos los lugares y orígenes, son bienvenidos y valorados en la preparatoria Washburn.

Todos son bienvenidos significa: No solicitaremos estatus ni documentación. Pedimos a los estudiantes que se traten con respeto y como miembros de una comunidad increíble.

A nuestros estudiantes y familias somalíes, y a todas nuestras comunidades inmigrantes: Aquí los vemos. Aquí los valoramos. Esta es su casa. Su presencia enriquece nuestra escuela, nuestra ciudad, y nuestro estado. Nos hacen mejores. Nos alegra mucho que estén aquí.

Las perspectivas globales son la base de ser un Colegio del Mundo del Bachillerato Internacional (IB). Nuestros alumnos aprenden tanto unos de otros como de nuestros profesores y personal. Nuestras familias eligen Washburn para que sus alumnos aprendan con otros de diferentes orígenes, experiencias, y perspectivas. No seríamos el gran colegio que somos sin nuestros alumnos inmigrantes.
