Important Dates for the Incoming Class of 2030

  • Open House for Prospective Families - Tuesday, November 18, 2024 - 5:00 to 7:00 pm
  • School Choice Deadline - Visit exploremps.org to submit your school request.
  • 9th Grade Registration Night - March 10, 2026 
  • Sports Info & Registration Night -  August 12, 2026
  • First Day of Fall Sports - August 17, 2026

 

  • Freshman Orientation - Thursday, September 3, 2026 
    • 2:00-4:30 pm We expect ALL 9th graders to attend. If you are dropping off a student use Door 3 on 49th street; if student is walking/biking come to Door 10. Students taking the bus may enter either door depending on whre the bus drops them off. Students will receive class schedules, attend 1st and 4th hour classes so you know where you are going in the morning & for lunch, and also meet classmates and teachers.
    • 2:00-3:00 pm. Optional new parent Q & A - Nervous about high school? Come hear from current parents and ask questions.
  • Welcome Night for ALL WHS students & families: September 3, 2026, 4:30-6:30pm (come any time) - students will pick up schedules and chromebooks. Info will be available about all the opportunities at WHS for students and families.
  • First Day of School - September 8, 2026

Bus cards will be given out to students after school begins.

MPS SCHOOL PLACEMENT PROCESS

If you live in Washburn's attendance area, you will have a spot at Washburn! You can see your assigned community school based on address at https://exploremps.org/Home. Note - this year the district will ask in-area families to confirm your spot.

If you do not live in our attendance area, you may still request a spot. Available spots will be assigned by lottery. Remaining requests will be put on the wait list & enrolled as space becomes available.  Spots will open from the wait list as available. 

All families must complete the choice form even if you live in Washburn's attendance zone. You can complete the online form at https://exploremps.org/Home This is how you tell the district your preference for a high school and reserve your spot.
